Description

This small Viking Age utility saxophone knife (also known as a broken-back seax due to its distinctive blade shape) has a short, hand-forged high-carbon steel blade with a thick spine. The eye-catching polished bone hilt is beautifully engraved on both sides with a Norse motif in the Borre style (c. 850-950 AD) and terminates towards the blade with a brass collar. The butt cap, also made of brass, has a convenient steel eyelet with a brass ring for threading a lanyard or drawing the knife from its sheath (lanyard not included).

The Short Seax Viking comes with a thick, ornate vegetable tanned leather sheath adorned with a hand braiding/braiding pattern. The scabbard is nicely rounded with reinforcing bone scales, brass rivets and two brass hanging rings in the shape of coiled snakes.

Although fully functional, the knife has a dull edge that you may want to sharpen if necessary for everyday use. However, please note that this Viking knife is primarily intended as a collector's item or decoration. The tip of the blade is not rounded and is in no way suitable for combat reenactment!

Specifications may vary slightly from part to part.

Please keep in mind that bone and leather are natural products and variations in color and grain are completely normal. Each Seax Viking therefore has its own unique handle and sheath and the images above are for illustrative purposes only.
