Product information
Like all Sandrin knives, the Torino has a tungsten carbide blade which, with its unusually high hardness of 71 HRC, far surpasses any steel in terms of abrasion resistance and edge retention. The new coarse blade finish ("Meteorite Pattern") gives the Torino, which was designed as a utility knife, a distinctive "rough" appearance. The countless marks on the blade in different directions are obtained by grinding with fine diamonds.
The Torino is Sandrin's first one-handed knife. The opening pins on both sides of the blade serve as an opening aid. The new Recoil Lock allows you to gently close the open knife blade with one hand.
The red semi-skeletonized G10 handle gives the knife a slim but easy-to-grip shape with low weight.
Using tungsten carbide for utility knife blades was not considered possible for a long time. Due to the extremely high degree of hardness and the resulting increased susceptibility to breakage, the miracle material in its previous form was not attractive to the knife industry.
However, Alessandro Colombatto, owner of Turmond SpA based in Turin/Italy, managed to find an ideal composition precisely for this purpose. With a hardness of "only" 71 HRC, which is still incredible, the knife blades from Sandrin Knives are quite flexible and also significantly less susceptible to breakage than ceramic blades.
Achieved edge retention is far superior to any known conventional or modern steel. The manufacturer claims that the edge stays sharp 20 times longer than the best premium steels made from powder steel (see also comparison list). And although there is no chrome in the blades, Sandrin knives are just as rust resistant as stainless steel knives.
Further information about Sandrin knives can also be found in the manufacturer's description.
