Description
The wakizashi, a weapon of honor in feudal Japan, could also be worn by socially respected citizens, while the katana was reserved for samurai. The small sword was worn on the obi and was more advantageous in combat in a small space than the long sword. The short sword was also used for ritual suicide or to cut off the head of a slain enemy.
Katana and wakizashi formed a pair of swords called daisho.
