Dawson differentially hardens the CPM-3V powder metallurgical tool steel it uses using a special heat treatment so that the sheath achieves a very high hardness of 60 to 61 HRC, while the hardness of the blade back n is only 40 to 45 HRC. This process gives the steel a perfect combination of exceptional stability and edge retention.
