Gladiator dagger with bone handle
Roman gladiators were meant to engage in very brutal hand-to-hand combat in the arenas of the Roman Empire, therefore a popular weapon was a short sword or stabbing dagger.
This gladiator dagger is a very beautiful replica of a weapon discovered during excavations in Pompeii. The city of Pompeii was largely destroyed in AD 79 by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius and buried under a layer of ash 4 to 6 meters thick. Today it is an Eldorado for archaeologists. The dagger has a very detailed, handcrafted bone handle. The blade is forged from carbon steel. It is unsharpened, making it perfect for the collector as well as combat displays. A scabbard is not available as the gladiator weapons were carried into the arena. Since the handle is made from naturally grown animal bones, small tears in the material are possible and completely normal. These small defects seem both authentic, natural and unique and in no way reduce the quality or resistance of the handle.
