Product information

The Monza is Sandrin's second one-handed knife and, like all Sandrin knives, has a tungsten carbide blade which, with its unusually high hardness of 71 HRC, far surpasses any steel in terms of resistance to corrosion. abrasion and edge retention.

The use of tungsten carbide for utility knife blades was not considered possible for a long time. Due to the extremely high degree of hardness and the resulting increased susceptibility to breakage, the miracle material in its previous form was not attractive to the knife industry.

However, Alessandro Colombatto, owner of Turmond S.p.A based in Turin/Italy, managed to find an ideal composition for this exact purpose. With a hardness of "only" 71 HRC, which is still incredible, the knife blades of Sandrin Knives are quite flexible and also significantly less susceptible to breakage than ceramic blades.

An edge retention achieved is far superior to any known conventional or modern steel. The manufacturer claims that the cutting edge stays sharp 20 times longer than the best premium steels made from powder steel (see also comparison list). And although there is no chrome in the blades, Sandrin knives are just as rust resistant as stainless steel knives.

The Monza comes standard with a silver DLC coated titanium handle. The Monza limited edition has a black zirconium handle. Zirconium is a chemical element of the 4th group of the periodic table with mechanical and chemical properties very similar to titanium. However, it is denser and therefore heavier than titanium. Zirconium is much less commercially available and therefore much more expensive. Monza Zirconium Black Anodization consists of a thin layer of ZrO2, which has higher hardness and corrosion resistance than DLC. At Messer, zirconium has so far only been used in the field of high-end custom. The combination of tungsten carbide and zirconium makes the Monza Limited Edition an absolutely exceptional knife thanks to its unique materials. The manufacturer only produces about 100 pieces of this limited edition.
