Product information
The use of tungsten carbide for utility knives blades has long been considered impossible. Because of the extremely high degree of hardness and the resulting increased susceptibility to rupture, the miracle material in its previous form was not attractive to the knife industry.
Alessandro Colombatto, owner of Turmond S.p.A. based in Turin / Italy, managed to find an ideal composition precisely for this purpose. With an incredible hardness of "only" 71 HRC, Sandrin Knives' knife blades are quite flexible and considerably less likely to break than ceramic blades.
Edge retention is obtained which is far superior to any known classical or modern steel. The manufacturer states that the edge remains sharp 20 times longer than with the best high-end steel powdered steel (see also the comparison list). And although the blades do not contain chrome, the Sandrin knives are just as rust resistant as the stainless steel knives.
Further information on the Sandrin knives can be found in the manufacturer's description.
The TCK 2.0 is the first and to date the only folding knife in tungsten carbide, two other versions are new as of March 2020 (Dellatorre - Drop Point Lame and Lanzo - Sheepfoot Lame). Despite its hardness of 71 HRC, it is flexible as a scalpel blade.
