SVA-170 Axes device

With the Tormek SVA-170 ax jig you will be amazed at the sharpness you can get from your axe. The device firmly supports the ax and allows you to sharpen it with a constant straight edge.

The rotation of the wheel presses the ax firmly into the device and increases the power of your hands, giving the cutting edge adequate grinding pressure on the wheel. So you won't cause any snags in the wheel, which can easily happen if you grind by hand towards the grinding direction.

When using a dry, high-speed grinding wheel, it is easy to burn the cutting edge and destroy the axe. With Tormek, this risk no longer exists, the water continuously cools the cutting edge.

Straight or curved edges

Since the ax head is freely supported on the rubber-coated stopper, you can follow the profile of the cutting edge, whether straight or curved. A forester's hatchet has a curved edge while a carpenter's ax has a nearly straight edge.

Sharp angles to suit your work

Choose the edge angle that best suits your type of axe. A rounded ax for sport and recreation has a wider cutting edge than a carpenter's axe. A splitting ax should have an even wider cutting angle.

You can choose to sharpen carpenter's axes asymmetrically with a larger grinding bevel on the left side (if you are right-handed). The ax will then cut more easily because the cutting force will be closer to the direction of the cut.

The device consists of an attachment fitted with a rubber-covered stopper.

It mounts on the universal support and slides laterally on the wheel.

The device is designed so that the rotation of the grinding wheel puts pressure on the ax.

Your intervention is limited to holding and guiding the axe. Sharpening is only done in the opposite direction to the cutting edge.

If necessary, remove the honing disc so as not to interfere with the ax handle.
