Another exceptional Japanese knife offered by CHROMA FRANCE. Available in two versions: san-maï 3 layers and Damas Hana 64 layers. Takamura is a knife maker producing exceptional blades in very small quantities. The annual quota is limited because the supply is significantly lower than overheating global demand. Find out about availability in store well in advance. Takamura has very good press in Japan, due to the very meticulous care they take with their creations in line with family transmission.

Powdered steel should be differentiated from solid steel; these are very pure metal oxide particles refined for several hours by successive grinding in a sealed container vigorously stirred with tungsten balls, an operation called mechanosynthesis. Alloying elements of similar size to the base powder are then added (Fe, C, Cu, Co, Cr, Ni, Mo, Mn, V, S, etc. depending on the desired steel), everything is compacted in hydraulic presses then sintered (sintering = heat treatment below the melting point, at 1120°) so that the particles agglomerate. We then join the normal stages, quenching and sharpening, the different sintered plates are thus welded together. The advantage of sintered or powder steels is on the one hand their hardness (63-64° HRC) ensuring a durable cutting edge, on the other hand as the powders are very fine initially, the edge of the wire of these The blades are also extremely thin, in the order of a micron, an effect impossible to obtain with normal steels. The very complicated process makes these blades quite expensive.
The handle on the damascus range is a traditional Japanese “hachikukei” shape, halfway between the round handle and the octagonal handle. On the san-maï range it is in classic red pakka. These resinated woods have been selected for their resistance to wear and temperature variations, as well as their comfort to the touch.
